Scene 8 – Love Revisited
Scene 8
Love revisited
Scene: Breakfast on Tommy & Allison’s 31th anniversary.
Allison is in the kitchen talking on the phone. She is speaking in hushed tones. This time its Allison’s arm that is bandaged.
Allison “it’s just so much. The cancer scare the business is in trouble. There’s so much pressure on us and I’m scared. I saw him flirting with a couple of young girls. Do you think…?
Tommy comes into the kitchen. Allison ends her conversation abruptly.
Allison “I gotta go”.
Tommy kisses her shoulder “they got it all. It’s behind us now”.
They hug and kiss. They exchange cards, take time to read and digest them, then hug and kiss again. “I love you”.
Phone rings. Allison checks caller ID. It’s Allison’s mother calling to wish them a happy anniversary.
Phone rings again.
Allison reaches for the phone, squints to check the caller display. “It’s your mom”
They answer.
Tommy’s Mother “Love and good wishes.”
The kids enter the kitchen half asleep “Happy Anniversary”. They present their parents with cards.
Beth asks Allison “What did Dad get you?”
Tommy answers. “I wrote a song”.
Cue Music
Tommy sings with the kids providing back vocals on the chorus
In the bridge between verses choreograph a short contemporary dance routine for Tommy and Allison.
Song-I can’t write enough love songs for you
Have I said it enough? I’ve been accused of being too cool.
Have I said it too much? Is that even possible to do?
Can I express my unchanged feelings in a new way?
Rearrange all the words to sound different and find a new expression,
avoid the corny and cliché and craft it all into something new.
Did I tell you that I love you today
Did I kiss you this morning and then go out on my way
Don’t get complacent. Keep reinterpreting life
Don’t accept routine, always find a new spice.
Find a new voice and, sing like it’s a first date.
Always find fresh ways to paint it and new vantage points with a view.
Chorus
Oooh oooh oooh ooh I can’t write enough love songs for you
Always searching new variations to play
more words that express in an uncommon way.
Oooh oooh oooh ooh I can’t write enough love songs for you
create permutations that haven’t been made
keep searching for fresh and romantic new ways
I keep wanting to tell you that I am thankful for each day
I have you and our family and that’s what I want to say.
You provide me with new inspiration that’s it
I don’t have to look far to spark creative spirit
You are my muse and you’re also my best friend
Just give me one look with those brown eyes and I’ll be scrambling for a pen.
Chorus
I keep finding more words, new ways, new prose to say.. I love you
