Scene 4 – Adult Life (part 3)
Scene 4
Adult life (Part 3)
Set: The basement of their home.
It is lined with sports equipment. Hockey gear, skis, bicycle. It could pass as a sports store.
There is a closet. In the back of the closet hidden by coats is a guitar case, and a couple of notebooks on a shelf.
Scene: Tommy’s parents are at Allison and Tommy Home.
They have all just returned from the hospital. Tommy has just been discharged after surgery to repair a broken wrist from a basketball game.
Tommy enters with his arm in a sling. He looks at all his equipment.
Tommy “I guess I won’t be needing these for a while”
He opens the closet door, slides the coats aside and looks at his guitar.
He reaches for the loose-leaf binders and the old cassette of his recordings drops to the floor.
He rummages around until he finds his old cassette player. He inserts the cassette and presses play.
Lights fade on him and come up on his parents.
Cue the music
Tommy’s parents sing
No visible band
Choreographed as a dance between the parents. in the background a montage of images of the upbringing of their children.
Song–Time waits for no one
Just got in, out of touch for some days
And I realized that time doesn’t stop.
Everything catches up to me
In a short time, to short to pick up every drop.
Chorus
Can’t you see? Time waits for no one
It’s got to be. Time just keeps rolling.
I step back into a place that has changed
Just a small bit but change has occurred
Being there would have made all the difference
But I wasn’t to me the changes hurt.
Chorus
Children grow but we still feel the same
They get older. Where do the years go?
They’ve grown up now they are adults too
Memories fill our heads and they all show
Chorus
