Scene 2 – University years

Scene 2
University years -1981

Set: University classroom. The teacher stands at the front of the class. Podium, whiteboard, desks and chairs. The students face the teacher

Scene: The teacher steps up to the podium. Tommy is seated a few rows back next to his friend Allan. The students are talking amongst themselves and with each additional conversation the din increases. She taps on the microphone and clears her throat in an attempt to get their attention.
Teacher “Settle down. Lets get started; I know that many of you will be graduating after this semester. Before I hand out the papers I’d just like to leave you with a thought. Have the courage to follow your convictions, give it your all! approach life as you would an athletic competition. Go all out!  If you don’t fall you’re not trying”.

The teacher hands out the final exams to the class.
Tommy looks at his classmate and they both chuckle.
Allan “What does that even mean”?

Clock on the wall speeds forward three hours.

Teacher calls out “Time. Please hand in your papers”. Students scribble some last desperate points and start handing in their papers.
Allan looks at Tommy “How’d you do?”
Tommy “Shit”
Allan tries to console him with some home grown philosophy. “You know how exams go. If you think you did well you did shit and if you think you did shit than you did shit. So why are you stressing?”

The class empties out.

Only Allan and the teacher remain behind.

Cue the music

Allan sings lead,

The teacher singing backs on chorus and end.
No visible band

Song-What will tomorrow bring?

Now that it’s over

You can’t stress ‘cause it’s done

No looking back, time to move on

On to the next one

How to respond

Your next adventure waiting beyond
Chorus

Nerves and excitement Adrenaline

What will tomorrow bring?

Nerves and excitement Adrenaline

What will tomorrow bring?

Cool on the outside

Uncertain within

best on your own, independent

You’ve got flair and passion

Street smart and strong

The whole world is out there for you take it on

Chorus
